SMERIG

Bike workshop Smerig is run by a collective of 2 women and 5 man. Since about 25 years we repair bikes and build good city-bikes from recycled wracks. We are all volunteers and thus offer a cheap service, because we like working with bikes and we want to get people out of their car and the cars out of the neighbourhood. We are learning by doing and teaching each other. We are fans of recycling and work as much as possible with used parts that are donated or we find on the streets. We put love into the bikes and care for quality more than quantity. We are located in the living and working building Ostade 233, where people with same ideals inspire each other. Without this squatted place it wouldn’t be possible for us to make and repair bikes without subsidies in a small-scale, non commercial way. To us it’s important that bikers in Amsterdam have the opportunity to care for and work on their bikes themselves. That’s why every Friday we have self-work day, where you can use our tools and also learn how to repair a bike. We are also renting out our transport bike (bakfiets). Open : Monday to Friday 11.15 to 17.00h
